LEARNING AND CARING
GETTING AWAY WITHOUT GOING FAR
They say that a change is as good as a rest and that theory has been proven each year by “Holiday at Home” a project especially for the elderly population in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The project provides a refreshing break from routine and a welcome holiday experience for those unable to get away for a break.
Organised and held at The Methodist Church Centre.
With support from Stratford Town Trust & Contact the Elderly the project now in its 8th year operates over three days although participants can opt for just a taster day of they wish.
The scheme is especially timed during August, a month which can be long and lonely when most facilities for the elderly are shut down, and especially so if close families are away on holiday enjoying themselves.
No bags to pack for this holiday, nor sleep in a strange bed, transport being provided by a team of volunteer drivers from “Churches Together in Stratford” participants are collected and returned home each day.
Pampering continues as all meals are prepared and served by volunteers with a menu based on the central theme providing time for shared company and conversation.
The daily “programme for 30” includes a wide variety of stimulating educational fun activities, with the opportunity to learn new skills. Participants look forward to returning home at the end with personal crafted holiday souvenirs.
