We are an Eco-Church/Eco-Congregation
See Eco-Church website for scheme details.
Thanks to all the green measures included in the redevelopment of Stratford-upon-Avon Methodist Church and our continuing efforts to relate our faith to the care of the environment, in 2014 we earned our 3rd Eco-Congregation award.
Our efforts in 2016 continued as we further reduced our dependence on fossil fuels, please click here to read more…
A new ‘Eco’ initiative was launched recently in the form of small laminated business-sized EcoCards. Please click here for more information.
Our continuous commitment to the Eco-Congregation programme recognised:
(1) Our stewardship of God’s creation is strengthened by regular publication of ‘The Green Corner’ in the monthly church magazine, regular Environmental Sunday services and speakers on environmental concerns in church based groups.
(2) Energy saving measures in the Church Premises Redevelopment Programme – March 2017 (PDF) have been implemented by replacing the inefficient heating system, installing double glazed windows and doors, LED lighting and rainwater harvesting, as well as by installing solar panels and a ground source heat pump. The latter are both generating renewable energy.
(3) Working well with other local organisations for social and climate justice: supporting Stratford Transition Town programmes (i.e. Harvest share, Garden share, Community Energy Warwickshire), Stratford-upon-Avon Fairtrade Town and Stratford-upon-Avon Foodbank.
We were very inspired by the advice given by the assessors in the award assessment meeting and we continue to build upon this as we plan our future programme.
