Celebrating the Queens 90th Birthday
Last October The Stratford-upon-Avon Town Trust invited local Community Groups to apply for funding to stage a special event celebrate the Queens 90th Birthday between April 21st and June 12th.
Some 47 groups in the town were successful including the local Contact the Elderly Group run by Churches Together in Stratford which is part of the National Charity Contact the Elderly.
On Sunday afternoon June 12th some 68 elders joined together and enjoyed a sumptuous Afternoon Tea at the Methodist Church Centre in Stratford-upon-Avon. Guests included the regular monthly Tea Group: participants from the annual Holiday at Home Programmes: Tea drivers and volunteers and local residents living alone around the vicinity of the church centre in Old Town and many invited nonagenarians!
As a memento of the afternoon each guest left with a box of Birthday Cake and given a book mark provided by the Contact the Elderly Group which contained the wording from The Queens Message Christmas 2002.
THE SERVANT QUEEN AND THE KING SHE SERVES
“I know how much I rely on my faith to guide me through the good times and the bad. Each day is a new beginning I only know that the only way to live my life is to do what is right to take the long view to give of my best in all that the day brings, and to put my trust in God.. I draw strength from the message of hope in the Christian Gospel God… I draw my strength from the message of hope in the Christian Gospel”
